Changing the usage reset cadence

This note assumes you have "features" added to your entitlement, and those features are set to be "usage" types that count down from their initial setting to zero - where that number will need to be reset over a specific period.

This action would normally take place at the "offering" level where you set the template for your products but in this case you can override the settings for a specific entitlement (customer).

Once you have a offering 'built up" from your editions and plans, and you have attached entitlements to that template, you can then edit the default setup for usage to meet your needs - if you are using usage-based feature control. This is really acting like a specific customer override action as you would not normally edit at this level, you would setup the usage reset cadence on an offering.

Default usage count reset periods

Usage count reset options:

  • On renewal ← default option for subscription license type

  • Never ← default option for perpetual license type

In these cases there is no need to do anything assuming the default reset periods work for your use case. On the other hand, if you prefer to always reset your feature usage to zero monthly then you can edit the setting on the offering below.

Either can be edited to switch to:

  • Monthly ← interval based reset available in both license types

Editing the scheduled usage reset settings

On the main entitlement page for the specific entitlement you wish to edit, navigate to the right hand features section and click the "edit" button.

On the dialog box you will see the default option selected for the "plan" type, in this case as its a Perpetual plan the default option is "Never" as explained below.

  • To change this to a monthly reset count cadence, select that option for the two choices.

  • Click save.

Once saved you will see your choice in the main offering page, now set to monthly in this case.

In this example the "Filestoconvert" feature will now start at 100 uses, and will burn down from their to zero, and will automatically reset to 100 every month on the activation date of the entitlement being sold to your customer.

You can also see the yellow warning icon alerting you that the defaults for the offering have been changed - and it easily allows you to reset things back to the default if you click it.

In the case of offerings with a "subscription" plan setting the default setting is different but the change to monthly is the same.

Definitions

On Renewal reset usage at the same time as license renewal, e.g. for a yearly plan, this reset would happen once a year.

Monthly on activation date reset usage each month on the day of entitlement activation, e.g. if activation on March 18th, then the month will be April 18th.

Never reset - usage won't reset unless reset method is called via API.
