Offerings and usage licensing

Offerings are equivalent to your product catalog, and can have "usage-based licensing" options attached.

This allows you to have maximum flexibility on both perpetual and subscription licenses where part of the offering is a usage component that gets "used up" (burn down) over time and is either automatically replenished or manually replenished (via. UI or API call).

You can set these options at the offering (or entitlement) level to make a set of usage orientated products for your customers - this is now a very popular "hybrid" way to sell e.g. sell by the seat as a subscription but add something like storage, or API calls or another consumable item that has a monthly allowance as part of the offer. Think ChatGPT.

When added to an offering (or entitlement) the recurring "usage resets" occur either:

  • On Renewal reset usage at the same time as license renewal, e.g. for a yearly plan, this reset would happen once a year.

  • Monthly on activation date reset usage each month on the day of entitlement activation, e.g. if activation on March 18th, then the month will be April 18th.

  • Never

The options change depending on the type of offering i.e. subscription or perpetual.

The mechanism resets back to the original amount set for the usage on the feature you are offering usage licensing upon.
